Do you believe in magic?

The Mississippi River Levee
Near LSU
Can you believe that there are only a scant 49 days left on the calendar until Louisiana Marathon Day? I remember when that number exceeded 200. My how time flies - even if the timelapserunner doesn't quite qualify as flying down the road. I must admit that in some ways this training has seemed like a very long road, one that stretches forever into the distance - much like the view down the levee path just after dawn this morning. There's nothing but vanishing point in the center of that picture, though I must admit that communing with nature has a lot going for it - even if you're running most of the way.

A short three weeks ago, we ran our first Galloway Magic Mile, a workout designed to help the would-be marathoner plan his pace on race day. For some reason, I have greater anticipation dread thinking about running a hard mile than I do about taking off down the road to run 20 miles. Weird, I know. Well, here's the good news: we improved on our 7:48 pace with a new (modern) PR of 7:38.5. Not bad, though we were truly huffing and puffing during that part of today's seven mile workout. Still, that's a brisk pace for this old one here. Galloway would project a 4:20:00 marathon pace from that. Of course, that is utterly ridiculous. We're not even sure we'll try for 5:00:00. Nonetheless, the result brings some satisfaction. A few muscles feel tweaked, however. Hopefully a few days rest will fix that.

To give you just a bit more of a live feel for being on the road, here's a short vid from the timelapserunner's viewpoint this morning:

Have a great week. We have a lot to look forward to in the coming week, not least of which is our next long run - a 23-miler! Stay tuned.
